Top Cruiser Bicycles
By James Brown
Cruiser bicycles have always been the most popular amongst all the various kinds of bicycles available on the market. These bicycles are not built for rough terrain like mountain bikes but for proper streets. The emphasis is much more on looks and convenience than on performance. But this is what the general public mostly goes for. After all not many from the general public are going to go for long distance mountain biking or speed racing.
Therefore, the manufacturers have also very smartly kept exactly these things in mind when producing cruiser bikes. They will make use of the most advanced technology to enhance the performance of cruiser bicycles but certainly not at the expense of style and comfort. These latter two are first and foremost on the agenda of the cruiser manufacturers. Advanced performance can readily take a back seat to these two.
Speed is not really a major concern when it comes to cruiser bicycles. So the norm generally is a single gear while some cruiser bicycles may have more but it is always kept to a minimum.
These bicycles have not been built for racing. If you are looking at speed or taking a wild ride through some humongous forest you would probably do better to get yourself a 27 speed mountain tires with twenty six inch thick monster tires.
On the other hand if you are looking for a relaxing ride through the beautiful countryside on lazy Sunday afternoons then cruiser bicycles are just the things for you. Or maybe you have to make frequent trips to your neighborhood supermarket. But the supermarket is too near from your place to feel like taking out your car but too far to go there walking.
Since comfort is such a huge factor in the design of these cruiser bicycles, the seats are always given special attention. Most of the time, the seats are of saddle design which is well padded for the comfort of the rider. Most of these bicycles come fitted with shock absorbers which have become sort of a necessity nowadays. And most bicycles have more than one shock absorber- there is one usually beneath the seat and another on the wheel. This makes riding the much more comfortable as hard impacts with the ground and with foreign objects are diminished to a great degree.
